SIGHTSEEING OPTIONS

TOUR AREZZO Half Day (about 3/4 hours) or Full Day (about 6/7 hours)

Pick up by bus from your location to go to central Arezzo . Visits to St.Francesco Church and frescos of Piero della Francesca, Piazza Grande, the Cathedral and the Museum. Lunch at a central restaurant. Visit to the Vasari’s Home. Starting from April to December 2011 it is possible to visit the inedited Exhibition of Vasari Paintings and Works of Art, and until the end of June also the altar piece restauration.

Cheese,wine and tipical food tastings at historic locations are available on request. Return by bus.

TOUR CASENTINO (full day about 6/7 hours)

Pick up by bus from your location. Visits to the ancient Pieve a Socana, Poppi Village and Castle. Lunch in a restaurant by the Castle. Afternoon: transfer to La Verna Sanctuary or to the Hermitage and Monastery of Camaldoli with a stroll in the wood. Alternatively, visits to Pratovecchio and Stia Villages where it is possible to buy the best-known fabrics made in Casentino. Return by bus.

TOUR VALDICHIANA (Full day about 6/7 hours)

Pick up by bus from your location. Transfer to Cortona and visits to Le Celle and St. Margherita Sanctuary with a stroll from the top of the mount to central Cortona, walking through the typical alleys. Lunch. Afternoon: visit to the Museum and to the archeological site of Sodo. Cheese, wine and tipical food tastIngs at historic locations are available on request. Return by bus.

TOUR TIBERINA full day (about 6/7 hours)

1) Pick up by bus from your location. Tour about Piero della Francesca: visits to Bacci Chapel of St. Francesco and The Maddalena in the Duomo Cathedral of Arezzo. Transfer to Monterchi to visit The Madonna of the Birthchild. Lunch. Transfer to San Sepolcro, the town of Piero, and visit to the Civic Museum. Return by bus.

2) Pick up by bus from your location. Transfer to Anghiari to visit the village and the Taglieschi Museum. Lunch. Transfer to visit the Hermitage of Montecasale and La Verna, passing through the very scenic passage of the Spino. Return by bus.

TOUR VALDARNO (about half day 3/4 hours) or full day (about 6/7 hours)

Pick up by bus from your location. Transfer to Il Borro passing through Ponte Buriano - ancien and famous bridge upon the Arno River- to visit wine cellars, Pieve di Gropina and Loro Ciuffenna. It is a charming itinerary may be not well known but which can positively enchant you. Lunch or return by bus. Or alternatively, transfer to Badia a Soffena to visit the Parish of Pian di Scò until Cascia. Return by bus.

LANDS OF AREZZO: VAL TIBERINA

The Upper Tiber Valley, known as Valtiberina, is the easternmost edge of Tuscany and
gets its name from the river which runs through it. In the Feudal Age sturdy castles
were built , as well as monasteries. The land is rich of different habits, architectural styles
and dialects; it was the birthpalce of great artists as Michelangelo and Piero della
Francesca(San Sepolcro). Surrounded by castles and country churches the medieval town
of Anghiari looks over the valley landscape; on 1440 C.E. the famous battle of Anghiari,
subsequntly painted by Leonardo da Vinci, riaffirmed Florentine rule in Tuscany. Artisan
shops and workrooms of furniture and antique restores enrich the small squares of the town.

Craftworks, wine, olive oil, jam, biscuits, cow steak.

LANDS OF AREZZO: CASENTINO

From Arezzo one can follow the Arno river back to its origin in the Valley of Casentino.
Here the mountains are shaped like an amphitheatre with sloping fields that are boarded
by ancient chestnut woods of Natural Park of Casentino Forests. A succession of
important events saw the creation of religious and military buildings and artistic objects of
the highest quality. Castles (like in Poppi), monasteries, hermitages (Chiusi della Verna),
churches, paintings, Robbia terracottas, are the range of sights to see.

LANDS OF AREZZO: VAL DI CHIANA

This is the most extensive of all the valleys in the Pennin chaine, over 500sq kms of cultivated farm land.
From the valley you can reach Cortona, a small town on a hill where the age of Etruscans
and Renaissance left their traces. Continuing along the Umbro-Casentinese road one
comes to Castiglion Fiorentino where is the Collegiate church of San Giuliano (1.400 C.E.)
and the square of Sangallo with the Pretorio Palace. The Loggiato (arcade with open arches) attributed to Vasari , reveals a splendid view of Val di Chio.
Typical products:
Wine, vinsanto (sweet white raisin wine), passito (wine made from dried grapes), olive oil,
honey, mushrooms,truffles, sausages, salami, ham, pecorino (sheep’s cheese), cow steak.

LANDS OF AREZZO: VALDARNO

At the bottom of Upper Valdarno the lowland is delimeted to the north east by Pratomagno and south east by the hills of Chianti. The Lower Valdarno is the area run by the river Arno from Florence to Pisa. The town of San Giovanni Valdarno gave birth to Masaccio. Not far there is Cavriglia, where begins a nature trail crowded with vines, ancient dry stones walled terraces,villages, castles. Moving on to Bucine among the hills we reach Pergine where close by olive groves produce excellent extra- virgin olive oil. From the fortress of Civitella you can view over theValdarno from one side, and from the other Valdichiana, the castle of Cennina, the abbey of Ruoti and the fortified village of Rapale. Passing Monte San Savino and the historical Castle of Gargonza, one can proceed to Val di Chiana…

It is located in the middle of Arezzo province, in the south east of Tuscany and set among
four marvellous valleys: Val Tiberina, Casentino, Valdarno, Val di Chiana.
The old town preserves the appearance it had in the middle Ages, but even before Arezzo
was one of the most important cities of Etruscan federation , and in Roman times it held
a preminent position among the cities of the Italian peninsula.
Over the centuries the land of Arezzo has given birth to illustrian men as Mecenate, Piero
